[adjective] + BB + 的 + [noun]
[measure word] + [measure word] + [noun]
叠词 are doubled syllables that writers use for colour and rhythm. Doubled adjectives (大大, 干干净净) are their own point; this one covers the forms that belong to description and literature: ABB adjectives and doubled measure words.
An adjective plus a doubled syllable gives a picture rather than a plain quality: 绿 is "green", 绿油油 is "glossy, lush green". The BB part belongs to its adjective and has to be learned with it: 红彤彤, 亮晶晶, 香喷喷, 冷冰冰, 热乎乎, 静悄悄, 懒洋洋.
An ABB form takes 的 before a noun and at the end of a sentence, and 地 before a verb.
A doubled measure word in front of a noun – 点点, 阵阵, 片片, 层层, 声声 – means "one after another, all over". In description it gives the sense of a scene spread out or repeated. The everyday 个个 and 天天, "every one" and "every day", are their own point.
An ABB form already carries its own degree, so 很 and 非常 cannot go before it. The order is fixed too: the adjective comes first.
