尽量【jǐnliàng】

尽量 goes before a verb and says the action will be done as far as possible. As a promise, it means you'll try, without guaranteeing the result.

On its own, 我尽量 is a complete reply to a request: "I'll do my best".

Avoiding something

To say "try not to", the negative goes after 尽量.

• × 不尽量迟到 → 尽量不迟到
• × 我会做尽量 → 我会尽量做

With adjectives

An adjective after 尽量 usually takes 一点儿 or 一些, or a verb to carry it.

The 尽 in 尽量 is read jǐn, not jìn.
