因此【yīncǐ】

因此 introduces the consequence of what came before. It belongs to written and formal Chinese: news, notices, reports and essays. In conversation, 所以 does the same job.

Before or after the subject

Unlike 所以, 因此 can go after the subject of its clause, right in front of the verb.

所以 can't move like this.

• × 大家所以都很喜欢他 → 所以大家都很喜欢他

With 由于

In formal writing the reason is often introduced by 由于, and 因此 picks up the result. 因为…所以 is the spoken pair.

因此 can also start a new sentence, after a full stop, to draw a conclusion from a whole paragraph.
