由于 + [cause],(所以 / 因此) + [result]
由于 + [noun phrase],[result]
由于 introduces the cause, and the result follows in the next clause. It means the same as 因为 but sounds more formal, so it is the usual choice in news, notices and reports.
The cause can be a noun phrase, as above, or a full clause.
The result clause can take 因此 or 所以; 由于…因此 is a common pairing in writing.
因为 can follow the result: 我没去,因为下雨了. 由于 can't – it opens the sentence, or opens a clause after the subject.
The finer differences between 因为, 由于 and 鉴于 have their own point.
