Lesson 23 of 126
The lesson
2.7 よ・ね — Sentence-ending particles
Overview
Learn how Japanese uses sentence-ending particles よ and ね to give information, emphasize statements, and seek agreement.
よ is used when the speaker is telling or informing the listener and wants to emphasize the information.
ね is used to seek agreement or confirm shared understanding. It sounds like “right?” or “isn’t it?”.
よね combines both meanings. The speaker believes something is true and expects the listener to agree.
These particles are common in spoken Japanese and help make sentences sound natural and friendly.
