ぶり / っぷり

ぶり turns a noun or a verb's ます-stem into a noun meaning "the way someone does it": はたらき働きぶり is the way someone works. It describes behaviour as an onlooker sees it, usually with a judgment attached. っぷり is the punchier spoken form of the same suffix.

After a word for a change or a state, such as せいちょう成長 or あわてる慌てる, ぶり says how far it has gone: the extent you can see.

ぶり or っぷり

っぷり is the same suffix said with more force, and it belongs to conversation. It goes mostly on vivid physical actions – eating, drinking, losing – and on おとこ男 and おんな女. With いい it praises someone for throwing themselves into it: たべ食べっぷりがいい is "eats heartily".

ぶり after a length of time, as in さんねん三年ぶり "for the first time in three years", is a separate point.
