できれば and できたら both mean "if possible" and are used to soften requests, express preferences, or state ideal conditions. They come from the verb できる (to be able to / to be possible) in its conditional forms – できれば uses the ば-conditional, and できたら uses the たら-conditional.
Both are typically placed at the beginning of a sentence as adverbial phrases, setting up what the speaker would ideally like to happen.
The most common use is to politely express what you would like, making the statement sound less forceful or demanding.
できれば / できたら can also express what you would prefer in an ideal situation, without making it sound like a hard requirement.
The two forms are largely interchangeable, but there are subtle differences. できれば tends to sound slightly more formal or written, while できたら feels slightly more conversational and casual. In everyday speech, both are used freely.
A more formal alternative is かのう可能であれば (if it is possible), which is used in business or written contexts. A casual synonym is できるなら, which carries a similar meaning but uses the なら conditional.
