でもあり～でもある

The structure でもあり～でもある is used to express that something simultaneously possesses two (or more) qualities, identities, or characteristics. It conveys the meaning of "is both A and B" or "is A and also B." This pattern highlights the coexistence of multiple attributes in a single subject, often emphasizing that these qualities may be surprising, contrasting, or noteworthy when found together.

Formation

The pattern attaches to nouns and na-adjectives. The first element takes でもあり and the final element takes でもある (or でもあります in polite speech).

Nuance

Compared to simply listing qualities with 〜～で (the te-form of だ), でもあり～でもある carries a more emphatic and literary tone. The inclusion of も ("also") stresses that each quality is noteworthy on its own, and the combination is particularly significant.
