弱 (じゃく) is a suffix attached to numbers and counters to indicate "a little less than" or "just under" a given amount. It is the opposite of きょう強 (きょう), which means "a little more than." Together, they form a pair used to express approximate quantities.
弱 is placed directly after a number (with or without a counter) to indicate that the actual amount is slightly below the stated figure.
弱 is used with counters for time, distance, weight, percentages, and other measurable quantities. It appears often in news, reports, and everyday conversation when giving approximate figures.
Be careful not to confuse 弱 with the adjective よわい弱い (weak). When used as a suffix after a number, 弱 always means "slightly less than." Also note that 弱 modifies the entire number + counter phrase, so に2じかん時間じゃく弱 means "slightly less than 2 hours" – not "2 hours and a weak amount."
