限りだ attaches to い-adjectives, な-adjectives, and occasionally nouns that describe emotions or feelings:
限りだ is used exclusively with emotion or feeling words – it cannot be used with adjectives that describe objective qualities (e.g., you cannot say ×大きい限りだ or ×高い限りだ).

Be careful not to confuse 限りだ with 限りない (limitless/boundless). While 限りだ expresses a strong personal emotion, 限りない is an adjective meaning "endless" or "infinite" and is used differently:
限りだ has a somewhat stiff and literary tone. In everyday casual conversation, speakers would more naturally use expressions like ～てたまらない or 本当に～. 限りだ is best suited for formal writing, speeches, letters, and polite expressions of deep feeling.
