These polite demonstratives can be used in formal or neutral situations. They can refer to physical locations, directions, people, or even abstract entities like choices.

Physical Locations

• こちら: Indicates a location or direction near the speaker.

  こちらはかいぎしつ会議室です。

  This is the meeting room.

• そちら: Refers to a location or direction near the listener or previously mentioned.

• あちら: Refers to a location or direction far from both the speaker and listener.
