さぞ + [sentence](conjecture/empathy ending)
さぞ + ~かもしれない
さぞ is an adverb used to express the speaker's strong empathy or imagination about someone else's feelings, experiences, or situation. It conveys the sense of "surely," "no doubt," "how … you must be," or "I can only imagine how…" The speaker is projecting themselves into another person's position and expressing that they understand or can vividly imagine what that person must be feeling or experiencing.
さぞ is typically followed by expressions of conjecture or empathy such as 〜~だろう, 〜~でしょう, 〜~だったでしょう, 〜~にちがいない違いない, or 〜~ことだろう. It is a somewhat literary or formal expression, though it also appears in heartfelt everyday conversation.
Here the speaker is imagining and acknowledging the other person's emotional state. This is one of the most common uses of さぞ – expressing sincere empathy.
When combined with 〜~ことだろう, the expression takes on a more emotional or literary tone, emphasizing the depth of the speaker's imagination.
さぞかし is an emphatic form of さぞ with the same meaning but slightly stronger emphasis. It can be used interchangeably in most contexts.
