puts someone or something up as the topic in order to complain about it: "as for…", "when it comes to…, honestly". It goes straight after a noun, usually a person or thing close to the speaker, and the rest of the sentence is the complaint. It is usually written in kana,
.
、。
My son, honestly – all he does is play video games.
、。
The staff at that shop – their attitude is so bad it's hopeless.
、。
My husband does nothing at all on his days off, I tell you.
The noun takes と来たら in place of ; the two never stack.
The second half is a criticism, an irritation or a sigh of despair. A neutral or kind remark does not fit: ×うちの息子と来たら、毎日学校に行く.
と来たら or ったら
does the same job more lightly. It is casual, often affectionate, and can stand alone as an exclamation; と来たら sounds heavier and goes on to spell out what is wrong.
、。
My mother tells the same story however many times I ask her not to.
In polite or formal speech, a plain は with a critical comment says the same without the edge: 、.
has a second use after a noun, "speaking of X, (naturally) Y", with no complaint in it:
、 – "summer means beer". That is a separate point.
