と同じくらい【とおなじくらい】

と同じくらい means "about as … as": two things are roughly equal in size, amount or degree. It follows the noun you compare with, and the adjective or verb comes after it. The usual frame is A は B と同じくらい….

くらい is also written ぐらい, with no difference in meaning. It makes the comparison approximate. とおなじ同じ on its own says two things are the same.

With a verb

Before a verb, と同じくらい compares how much or how often someone does something.

Before a noun

Before a noun it takes の: "about the same amount of".

と同じくらい or ほど

と同じくらい says two things are level. To say one falls short, "not as … as", use ほど with a negative.
