とは比べものにならない【とはくらべものにならない】

A は B とは比べものにならない says that A is so far beyond B that the two can't be put side by side: "there's no comparison". B is a noun, or a verb made into a noun with の.

A is the one that has far more of the quality in question. English "A can't compare with B" says the opposite – that A is the weaker one – so read the Japanese the other way round from the English.

With ほど and くらい

Add ほど or くらい and an adjective to say which way the gap goes. Without one, the context decides – usually "better" or "bigger", but not always.

The phrase is everyday Japanese, at home in conversation as well as in writing. The polite form is くらべもの比べものになりません.
