Structure

V[stem] + ます

V5: Replace the final う syllable with the corresponding い syllable and add ます

かう買う → 買い → 買います
まつ待つ → 待ち → 待ちます
とる取る → 取り → 取ります
のむ飲む → 飲み → 飲みます
あそぶ遊ぶ → 遊び → 遊びます
しぬ死ぬ → 死に → 死にます
かく書く → 書き → 書きます
およぐ泳ぐ → 泳ぎ → 泳ぎます
はなす話す → 話し → 話します

V1: Remove る and add ます

たべる食べる → 食べ → 食べます

Exceptions:

する → し → します
くる来る → 来 (き) → 来ます (きます)
