Structure

Godan (V5) – te-form sound changes apply:

V5(〜う / 〜つ / 〜る) → 〜った
V5(〜む / 〜ぶ / 〜ぬ) → 〜んだ
V5(〜く) → 〜いた
V5(〜ぐ) → 〜いだ
V5(〜す) → 〜した

Ichidan (V1):

[v1 stem] + た

Irregular:

[する] → した
[来る] → きた
[行く] → 行った (exception to 〜く → 〜いた)
[問う] → 問うた / [請う] → 請うた (exception to 〜う → 〜った)

Description

The ～た form is the plain past tense form of verbs in Japanese. It is used in casual speech or writing. It expresses actions that were completed in the past.
