[clause: first cause],兼之 + [clause: second cause],[clause: result]
兼之 adds a second circumstance to a first, and the two together lead to the result in the last clause: "added to which", "on top of that". It is literary, found in essays, descriptive writing and formal reports; in speech the same job is done by 加上.
The sentence has three parts: first cause, 兼之 + second cause, then the result. The two causes point the same way, good or bad.
兼之 joins clauses that act as reasons. It can't link two nouns the way 和 does.
兼 on its own is a different word: it means holding two roles at once, as in 校长兼英语老师 "head teacher and English teacher in one".
