特此【tècǐ】

特此 means "specially, for this purpose", and it ends a document by naming what the document just did. It goes on a line of its own after the body, followed by a two-syllable verb and a full stop.

The verb matches the document: 通知 for a notice, 证明 for a certificate, 声明 for a public statement, 说明 for an explanation, 公告 for a public announcement.

Inside a sentence

特此 can also open the last sentence of a letter or statement when it thanks or apologises. Then it carries the whole verb phrase.

End, not start

特此 closes the document; the opening word of a notice is 兹 or 现. It takes no 了 and no object after 通知.
