下去【xiàqu】

下去 after a verb says an action that has already started keeps going from now on. It often follows 想, 要, 不想 or 不能.

起来 marks the start of an action; 下去 picks it up in the middle and carries it forward.

再…下去 for "if this goes on"

再 + verb or adjective + 下去 in the first half of a sentence says "if this carries on". The second half says what will happen.

Where the object goes

An object cannot follow 下去. Put it first as the topic.

下去 also keeps its literal sense, "go down": 你下去看看 is "go down and have a look".
