Getting started
Languages and scripts
Lingaku teaches Japanese and Chinese. You study one at a time and can switch at any time.
- Website
- Mobile app
- Browser extension
Switching language
- Website: the language menu with the flag in the top bar.
- App: Account → Language.
- Extension: the language switch at the top of the sidebar.
Levels, decks and lookups are kept separately for each language, so switching never mixes them.
Simplified and traditional characters
Chinese is shown in the script you pick: simplified (简体字, used in mainland China and Singapore) or traditional (繁體字, used in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau). Change it in the Characters part of the language menu, under Account → Language in the app, or in the extension’s language switch.
Switching script changes how texts, popups, dictionary pages and cards look. Your progress stays: a word is the same word in either script, and search finds words written either way.
Text written by someone else, such as websites, subtitles and images, stays in the script it was written in. The popups opened from it use your script.
