Lesson 14 of 126
The lesson
1.14 Pointing to Things
Overview
Learn how to refer to things in Japanese using これ・それ・あれ・どれ and how to modify nouns with この・その・あの・どの.
これ・それ・あれ・どれ are used to refer to things by themselves.
これ is used for things near the speaker. それ is used for things near the listener or already shared in the conversation. あれ is used for things far from both the speaker and the listener. どれ is used to ask which one.
When a noun follows, these forms cannot be used. Instead, this pattern is used: この・その・あの・どの + noun
