Lesson 30 of 126
The lesson
3.4 Verbs: て-form and Connecting Actions
Overview
Learn how to form and use the ~て form. This lesson focuses on connecting actions, showing sequence, and giving soft background or reasons.
The ~て form is used to connect actions and show sequence. It does not mark tense by itself — tense is shown by the final verb.
If you know how to make the ~た form, the ~て form is easy.
Rule:
- Replace た → て
- Replace だ → で
More than two actions can be linked. Only the final verb shows tense and politeness.
The ~て form can also express a soft reason or background.
