The suffix げ is attached to certain adjectives and nouns (especially those related to emotions or feelings) to express that someone or something appears to be or gives the impression of having that quality. It conveys an outward appearance or impression observed by the speaker, similar to "looking like," "seemingly," or "with an air of."

The word formed with げ functions as a な-adjective. It can modify nouns with な, be used with に as an adverb, and take だ / です as a predicate.

げ describes outward appearance as perceived by the speaker. It does not state a fact about someone's internal state – only what it looks like from the outside. Because of this, it is used to describe other people, not oneself.
げ is most naturally used with words expressing emotions, feelings, or psychological states: かなしい悲しい, うれしい嬉しい, さびしい寂しい, たのしい楽しい, ふあん不安, とくい得意, ふまん不満, たいくつ退屈, はずかしい恥ずかしい etc. It is not freely productive with all adjectives – for example, ✕おおき大きげ or ✕あか赤げ would be unnatural.
Both げ and 〜～そう can express "looks like," but げ is more literary and descriptive, while 〜～そう is more conversational and spontaneous. げ also tends to focus on emotional or psychological qualities observed in someone, whereas 〜～そう can be used with a much wider range of adjectives and verbs.
