以上【いじょう】

以上 (いじょう) is a noun/suffix used to express "or more," "and above," or "that is all." It appears frequently in everyday Japanese, from signs and rules to formal announcements.

Quantity: "or more," "and above"

When placed after a number or quantity, 以上 indicates that number or more. An important point: 以上 is inclusive – it includes the stated number itself. So じゅっこ１０個いじょう以上 means "10 or more" (≥10), not "more than 10" (>10).

It can also follow non-numerical nouns to mean "more than," "beyond," or "above" that thing:

"That is all"

以上 is used at the end of announcements, presentations, or reports to signal "that is all" or "end of message."

Contrast with 以下 and 未満

• 以上 (いじょう): or more (inclusive, ≥)
• 以下 (いか): or less/below (inclusive, ≤)
• 未満 (みまん): less than (exclusive, <)

For example, じゅう はっさい１８歳みまん未満 means "under 18" (not including 18), while じゅう はっさい１８歳いじょう以上 means "18 and over" (including 18).
