未だに + [verb ない-form] 未だに + [verb て-form] + いない未だに + [verb て-form] + いる未だに + [noun] + だ

Description

未だに means "still", "even now": a situation has gone on up to now, longer than you'd expect, and hasn't changed. It goes before the predicate, which is most often a negative, きごう〜ていない or きごう〜ている. It is also written in kana, いまだに.

He still hasn't contacted me.

The culprit of that incident still hasn't been found.

I still remember that day.

She is still living alone.

"Still hasn't" is きごう〜ていない or the plain negative, not the past: the not-happening goes on now.

× 犯人は未だに見つからなかった → 犯人は未だに見つかっていない

未だに or まだ

is the everyday "still" and "not yet", and it is neutral. 未だに adds that a long time has passed and things should have changed by now, so it often carries surprise or irritation. It is also the more formal of the two, common in writing and the news.

The item I ordered still hasn't arrived.

まだ also covers what is only just beginning or not over yet – "there's still time", "it's still early". 未だに can't, because nothing there is overdue.
