いる

The verb いる is used to indicate the existence or presence of animate beings such as people, animals, or other living creatures. On the other hand, ある is used for inanimate objects

• Expressing Existence of Living Beings: To say that a person or animal exists in a specific place.

  こうえん公園にいぬ犬がいます。

  There is a dog in the park.

• Expressing Possession of Living Beings: To say that you have a person or animal in your life.

  わたくし私にはあね姉がいます。

  I have an older sister.

The location of the being is marked with に, and the living subject is marked with が.

Conjugation

いる is a る-verb. It conjugates regularly, just like other る-verbs.
