からと言って / からといって【からといって / からといって】

からと言って means "just because": the first half is a fact, and the second half denies what you might conclude from it. It follows the plain form, with だ after a noun or な-adjective. It is usually written in kana, からといって.

The second half denies the conclusion

What comes after からと言って is the conclusion being rejected, so it ends in わけではない, とはかぎらない限らない, or a warning such as べきではない or てはいけない. Without the denial, the sentence no longer says "just because".

• × 安いからと言って、たくさん買うべきだ → 安いからと言って、たくさん買うべきではない
• × 有名だからと言って、おいしい → 有名だからと言って、おいしいとは限らない

Giving someone's reason

With no denial, and the second half simply what someone did, からと言って reports the reason that person gave: "saying that", "on the grounds that". Here いって言って really is "saying".
