結果 / の結果【けっか / のけっか】

結果 joins a process to what came out of it: "as a result of", "after". A verb comes before it in the た-form, and a noun takes の.

The process is over before the result comes, so the verb is always in the た-form.

• × よく考える結果 → よく考えた結果

The noun is usually a process that has an outcome: けんさ検査, ちょうさ調査, はなしあい話し合い, せんきょ選挙.

結果, 末に and あげく

All three put an outcome after a process. 結果 is neutral, and the outcome can be good or bad. すえに末に stresses how long and hard the process was, and あげく adds that after all that trouble it ended badly.

Register

結果 belongs to written and formal Japanese: news, reports, a careful explanation. In conversation the same story is usually told with きごう〜たら. At the start of a sentence, そのけっか結果 points back to what came before.
