Facing (a direction):
向き (むき) is a suffix attached to nouns that has two main meanings: "suitable for" and "facing (a direction)."
When attached to a noun describing a person, group, or purpose, 向き indicates that something is suitable for or well-suited to that particular target. It often appears in the pattern Noun + 向きの + Noun.
In this usage, 向き suggests a natural fit or suitability. It is often interchangeable with むけ向け (むけ), but there is a subtle difference: 向き implies something is naturally suited to a group, while 向け implies something was intentionally designed or targeted at that group. For example, こども子供むき向きのえいが映画 (a movie that happens to be suitable for children) vs. こどもむけ子供向けのえいが映画 (a movie made specifically for children).
向き can also indicate the direction something faces or is oriented toward. In this case, it attaches to direction words like みなみ南、きた北、 うえ上、した下、みぎ右、ひだり左 etc.
