に限らず【にかぎらず】

に限らず means "not only X": what the sentence says is true of X, and of more than X. It follows a noun, and the second half usually names the wider group with も, or widens it to "anyone", "anywhere".

The word かぎら限らず is the written negative of かぎる限る, "to limit": "without limiting it to X".

Pairs of opposites

With a pair – men and women, weekdays and weekends – に限らず says the statement covers both sides.

に限らず or だけでなく

だけでなく means the same and is the everyday choice. It also follows verbs and adjectives; に限らず only follows a noun.

• × 安いに限らず、おいしい → 安いだけでなく、おいしい

に限らず is more formal, and it fits a category being widened – places, groups, times – better than a one-off fact.
