"In order to" – Stating requirements for a goal

When attached to the dictionary form of a verb, には expresses "in order to" or "for the purpose of". The sentence that follows typically states what is necessary, required, or important for achieving that goal.

This usage is similar to ために but tends to emphasize conditions or requirements rather than simply stating purpose. The clause after には often contains words like ひつよう必要, たいせつ大切, or expressions of obligation.

"For ~" – Indicating a standard of judgment

には can mark the person or thing being evaluated, meaning "for" in the sense of judging something relative to a standard.

Here, には marks the perspective from which a judgment is made. A very common pattern is 私には + わからない／できない, expressing that something is beyond one's ability or understanding:

Topicalized に – Location, target, or recipient as topic

When は is added to a noun already marked by に (for location, direction, or recipient), it topicalizes or contrasts that element. This is common when emphasizing existence in a location or contrasting targets.

The は adds a nuance of "as for ~" or contrast – for example, the second sentence may imply "but to someone else, I did say something."
