[verb た-form] + ところだ
The structure たところだ is used to express that an action has just been completed. It emphasizes that the action finished only moments ago, and the speaker is still at the point right after it ended. It often translates to "just finished doing" or "just did" in English.
To form it, attach ところだ to the た-form (past form) of a verb.
The word ところ literally means "place," but here it is used figuratively to mean a point in time – specifically, the moment right after an action is completed.
Unlike the simple past tense (e.g. たべた食べた), which merely states that something happened, たところだ stresses that the action was completed very recently – just now or moments ago. Compare:
