てばかりいる

てばかりいる says someone does nothing but one thing, over and over: the て-form of a verb, then ばかり, then いる. It is almost always a complaint, about someone else or about yourself.

ばかり sits between the て-form and いる, and いる carries the tense and politeness: てばかりいた, てばかりいます.

Where ばかり goes

After a noun, ばかり limits the thing: one kind of food, one TV channel. After the て-form, it limits the activity: you do this and nothing else.

Stop doing only that

てばかりいないで tells someone to stop doing only this and do something else, which follows.

Usage notes

These go beyond the plain statement.

Joined to another clause

The て-form てばかりいて joins on what that habit leads to, and てばかりいると or てばかりいたら warns where it will lead.

ばっかり and ばっか

In casual speech ばかり becomes ばっかり or ばっか, and いる stays.
