とみえる / とみえて

とみえる follows a plain-form clause and says that clause is your conclusion from something you can see: "it seems", "apparently". A noun or な-adjective keeps だ before it. It is also written とみえる見える.

It judges someone or something from the outside, so it does not describe your own state: ×私は疲れたとみえる.

とみえて: the evidence comes second

The て-form is the form you meet most. The first half is the guess and the second half is what you saw that led to it.

This is the reverse of ところをみる見ると, where the evidence comes first and the guess follows.

Register

とみえる is written and formal. In conversation the same guess is みたい or らしい, and とみえて becomes みたいで.
