"Therefore / consequently" (結果を導く)
"Because of / due to" (原因・理由を示す)
Note: ゆえ can also follow が (〜がゆえに) for emphasis.
ゆえに (故に) is a formal, literary conjunction/particle meaning "therefore", "because of", or "due to". It expresses a cause-and-effect relationship and is used primarily in written language, academic texts, speeches, and formal discourse. It carries an elevated, sometimes classical tone.
When placed after a clause or noun, ゆえに indicates that what follows is a consequence of what precedes it. In this usage, it functions similarly to したがって or そのため.
When attached to a noun or clause, ゆえに can express the reason or cause for what follows, similar to ために or から.
With nouns: Noun + ゆえに / ゆえの
With verbs/adjectives (plain form): Verb/Adj + がゆえに
The form がゆえに adds emphasis, often conveying "precisely because" or "it is exactly because". It is used when the cause leads to an unexpected or ironic result.
When the cause modifies a following noun directly, use ゆえの instead of ゆえに.
