Structure

Remove ～い and replace it with ～かった:

たかい高い → 高かった

Polite Form: To make the i-adjective polite, add です to the past form:

たかかった高かった → 高かったです

Exceptions:

よい良い (いい) → 良かった(よかった)
The same pattern applies to other adjectives ending in よい良い (いい), such as かっこいい → かっこよかった

Description

The ～かった form is used to express the plain past tense of i-adjectives in Japanese. It describes qualities, states, or characteristics that were true in the past.

Plain Form: Used in casual or informal speech to describe negative qualities or states.
そのえいが映画はおもしろかった面白かった。
That movie was interesting.
Polite Form: Add です to make the statement more formal.
そのえいが映画はおもしろかったです面白かったです。
That movie was interesting.
