～くない is the negative of an い-adjective: "not expensive", "not big". Drop the final い and add くない, then です to make it polite. たかい高い becomes たかくない高くない.
These go beyond the basic polite negative.
In casual speech, leave です off.
A ～くない form can describe a noun the same way the adjective itself does.
There is a second polite negative, い → くありません. It means the same as くないです and sounds a little more formal. くないです is the one you hear most in conversation.
The past of an い-adjective is かった (高かった) and the negative past くなかった (高くなかった) – the くない from here with かった on the end.
