Note: For する-verbs with 漢語 nouns, ご may replace お (e.g., ご存知でいらっしゃる)
These are honorific expressions used to describe the ongoing actions or states of someone of higher status (e.g., superiors, customers, elders) in polite or formal situations. Both forms are respectful equivalents of ~ている.
The level of politeness increases with the length of the expression. The following sentences are arranged in order of descending politeness:
