[subject] + 大概 + [verb phrase]
大概 + [number] + [measure word]
大概的 + [noun]
大概 before a verb says something is probably true. The speaker leans towards yes, more firmly than with 也许.
吧 at the end often comes with it and asks the listener to agree.
It can also go in front of the subject. A negative always follows it.
Before a number, 大概 means "about" – the use it shares with 差不多 and 左右.
大概 is also a noun-like word for "the rough outline": 大概的意思 is the gist, and 知道个大概 is knowing roughly what happened.
