The word あまり at this level is used to express that something is so extreme or excessive that it leads to a certain result. It conveys the meaning of "so much… that" or "to such an extent that." This is distinct from the more basic あまり〜～ない (not very / not much) pattern.
There are several common structures:
When placed before an adjective or verb, あまり (often with に) emphasizes that the degree is extreme, leading to the result described in the second clause.
When modifying a noun, あまりの is used, followed by に, to express "due to the sheer/extreme (noun)."
The cause can also come before あまり. In this pattern, a verb (dictionary form or た-form) or adjective precedes あまり to indicate that an excess of that action or feeling led to a consequence.
