だけに

だけに means "precisely because": the first half names a fact, and the second half gives a result or a feeling that follows from it, often more strongly than it would otherwise. It follows the plain form of a verb or an い-adjective, a な-adjective with な, or a bare noun. である can go in between in writing.

The result can be good or bad. With a disappointment, the first half often names the hopes that made it hurt. なおさら or いっそう in the second half spells out the "all the more".

だけに and だけあって

Both link a fact to the result it leads to, and both can mean "as you'd expect". だけあって only praises: the result lives up to the fact. だけに can also bring a result that goes against what you'd hoped for.

• × 期待していただけあって、がっかりした → 期待していただけに、がっかりした

だけに belongs to writing and fairly careful speech. In conversation, から with なおさら or よけい余計に carries the same idea.
