ふと is an adverb meaning "suddenly," "by chance," or "unintentionally." It describes something that happens spontaneously and without conscious effort or planning – a thought that pops into your mind, something you happen to notice, or a sudden realization.
Unlike とつぜん突然 (とつぜん), which emphasizes the abruptness or shock of an event, ふと focuses on the lack of intention. It conveys that something occurred naturally, almost without the person meaning to do it. It is most often used with verbs related to thinking, noticing, looking, and remembering.
