一度に + [verb]

Description

一度に means "all at once", "in one go", "at a time": a quantity is dealt with in a single go rather than in parts. It is an adverb and goes before the verb, often with a word for how much: ぜんぶ全部, たくさん, a number.

It's impossible to memorize everything at once.

The customers all came at once, and it was hectic.

一度に or 一度

Without に, いちど一度 counts: "once", "one time". 一度に is about doing a lot in that one time.

I have been to Japan once.

I can't eat a lot at once.

× 一度に日本へ行ったことがある → 一度日本へ行ったことがある

How much at a time

With a number and a potential verb, 一度に gives a limit: how much fits or can be handled at one time.

Only 10 people can ride this elevator at one time.

This washing machine can wash up to 8 kilograms at a time.

Its opposites are すこしずつ少しずつ (little by little) and ひとつ一つずつ (one by one).
