The pattern attaches to the dictionary form of a verb:
Verb[dictionary form] + いっぽう一方だ
一方だ is used to describe trends or tendencies – situations that are progressing steadily in a single direction. It is most common for negative or undesirable trends, though it can also describe neutral or positive ones.
Because this pattern focuses on ongoing change, it is not used for one-time events or situations that have already concluded. It implies the speaker sees the trend continuing into the future.
