ことごとく

ことごとく means "every single one, without exception". It is an adverb: it stands in front of the verb, and the noun it counts takes は, が or を as usual.

It goes most often with failure, rejection and destruction, which gives it a dramatic ring. A good result works as well.

ことごとく, 全部 and すべて

ぜんぶ全部 and すべて also mean "all", and they are what you say in conversation. ことごとく is literary and stresses that each item, one by one, met the same fate. 全部 and すべて can also be nouns (ぜんぶ全部のほん本, すべてをうしなった失った); ことごとく only modifies a verb.

The kanji spelling is ことごとく悉く. 悉 is outside the everyday kanji list, so kana is the usual spelling.
