さすが

さすが is used to express admiration or acknowledgment that something or someone lives up to their reputation or expectations. It conveys the sense of "as one would expect" or "that's just like (someone)." It is most common when you are impressed by something that is consistent with what you already knew about a person, place, or thing.

Praising or admiring someone/something

The most common use of さすが is to express that someone's actions or qualities are exactly what you'd expect given their skill, status, or reputation. It carries a tone of genuine admiration.

When followed by a noun directly, the particle の is used:

さすがに – "even (for someone/something)"

When used with に, さすがに can express that even someone or something known for a certain quality has reached a limit or reacted in an unexpected way. This usage highlights that a situation exceeded what would normally be expected.

Common patterns

• さすが（は）+ Noun: "As expected of [noun]" – used to praise.
• さすがの + Noun + も: "Even [noun], who is usually…" – highlights an exception.
• さすがに: "As one would expect" / "I must say" / "Even so" – used adverbially.

さすが is most natural when there is prior knowledge or reputation to reference. Using it about someone you know nothing about would sound odd.
