Answering:

[Noun] + のほうが + [adjective/verb]
どちらも + [adjective/verb]

Description

The pattern AとBと、どちらが～ is used to compare two items and ask which one is more of a certain quality. It translates to "Between A and B, which is more ~?" or "Which is ~er, A or B?"

Basic structure

Place the two things being compared before どちら, connected by と, and follow どちらが with an adjective or verb phrase.

Answering

When answering a どちらが question, use ～のほうが～ to indicate your choice.

I like dogs more.

If neither is preferred or both are equal, you can use どちらも (both / neither).

I like both.

Notes

The second と (after B) is sometimes omitted in casual speech: AとB、どちらが～.
どちら is the polite form. In casual speech, どっち is used instead.

Coffee or tea, which do you prefer?
This pattern is specifically for comparing two items. When comparing three or more, use 〜～のなか中で、どれがきごう／なん何がきごう／どこが instead.
