[verb (plain)] + からこそ [i-adj] + からこそ [na-adj] + だ + からこそ [noun] + だ + からこそ

Description

からこそ is から with こそ on it: "precisely because", "it's because… that…". It singles the reason out as the real one. It attaches the way から does – the plain form, with だ after a noun or な-adjective.

It's because you worked hard that you were able to succeed.

It's because we're friends that I'm going to be blunt.

からこそ or から

から states a reason. からこそ argues for one: this reason and no other, often against what the listener might expect.

I support you because I believe in you.

。

It's because I believe in you that I support you.

It's a claim the speaker stands behind, so it does not give a plain cause for something that went wrong.

× 寝坊したからこそ、遅刻した → 寝坊したから、遅刻した

Turning a hardship into a reason

からこそ often takes something that looks like a drawback and makes it the reason for something good.

It's because it's tough that it's rewarding.

Usage notes

These go beyond からこそ inside one sentence.

だからこそ at the start of a sentence

だからこそ opens a sentence and points back at the one before: "that is exactly why".

This job is hard. That is exactly why it's worth doing.

からこそ before です

The sentence can end on からこそ when the reason is the news: 〜～のは．…からこそだ.

It is only because my family supported me that I am where I am today.
