Structure

お + [verb ます-stem] + する

お + [v5 ます-stem] + する
お + [v1 ます-stem] + する

Conjugation of する:

お + [verb ます-stem] + します (polite)
お + [verb ます-stem] + しました (polite past)
お + [verb ます-stem] + いたします (more humble)
お + [verb ます-stem] + いたしました (more humble past)

Note: Used with native Japanese (和語) verbs. For Sino-Japanese (漢語) verbs, use ご〜する instead.

Description

The pattern お～する is a humble speech (謙譲語) form used to lower the speaker's own actions, thereby showing respect to the person the action is directed toward or performed for. It is one of the core patterns of Japanese keigo (敬語).

Formation

The basic structure is お + Verb[ます-stem] + する:

もつ持つ → 持ち → お持ちする
おくる送る → 送り → お送りする
つたえる伝える → 伝え → お伝えする

The する part can be conjugated freely: お～します (polite), お～しました (polite past), お～いたします (even more humble).

I will humbly convey (it) to the teacher.

When to use

This pattern is used when the speaker's action benefits or involves someone of higher status – a customer, a superior, a teacher, etc. It cannot be used for actions that do not affect or relate to another person.

I will call you later.

お vs. ご

For native Japanese words (和語), use お: お持ちする, お送りする. For Sino-Japanese words (漢語), use ご instead: ご連絡する, ご案内する.

I will humbly show you the way.

A few Sino-Japanese verbs take お rather than ご: お勉強する, お電話する, お散歩する.

お～いたします is a more humble variant using いたす (the humble form of する). It is very common in business and formal customer service.
Be careful not to confuse this with the honorific pattern お～になる, which elevates someone else's action rather than humbling the speaker's own.
